High-Performance Material Care Instructions
Periodic exposures and contacts to sebum, perspiration, and dirt weakens functional capabilities of waterproof and breathable fabrics and down material. Routine wash and maintenance are recommended to maintain materials’ functionalities and to optimize product-life.
Read the following before maintenance.
Review care instructions
Wash according to the care instruction label on the product. Most of the products offered by Goldwin can be washed at home. However, some products need special handling that may require dry cleaning.
Laundry detergent
Use Ph neutral liquid detergent. For down insulated products, a detergent specifically designed for down is recommended to retain beneficial oil in down. Use a liquid detergent that is less likely to leave residue on the product as such remaining will interfere with product’s functionalities. Do not use fabric softener or bleach.
Before washing
Close all zippers, flaps, and other accessories on the product before washing to avoid damaging its fabric. When using a washing machine, please fold the garment and put it in a laundry net.
Product-by-product care instructions
Waterproof and breathable products
Products made of waterproof and breathable materials such as GORE-TEX and PERTEX SHIELD may lose their functionalities with dirt. Washing is very important to maintain functionality. Products are washable at home. Thus, a frequent wash right after the use of a product is recommended to extend product’s life.
Wash instructions
- Check and follow the care instruction label.
- All zippers, pockets, and flaps must be closed.
- Use a small amount of PH neutral liquid detergent.
- Use the washing machine and wash with warm water below 40°C.
- Rinse thoroughly at least twice as any detergent remains on the fabric will lead to loss of its functionality.
- Check the care instruction label to see if spin dry with washing machine is possible. If possible, spin light without exceeding the cycle over a minute.
Drying instructions
- Line dry in shade.
- When using a dryer, avoid high temperatures and dry at medium or lower temperatures.
How to restore water repellency
If water on the outer fabric does not form water droplets but instead soaks into the fabric, the water repellent capability has deteriorated.
【Dryer】
After drying, run the dryer again with
warm air for about 20 minutes.
【Iron】
Iron at low temperature without steam,
using a damp cloth.
【Water repellent】
If water repellency is not restored even with above treatments,
reprocess the water repellency using a
commercially available water repellent agent for waterproof and breathable garments.
Storing instructions
- Store on hangers or folded neatly, away from direct sunlight and high humidity.
Down products
Some down products can also be washed at home although down is recommended to keep away from getting wet. Although wash after every use is not necessary, maintenance at the end of the season is recommended since dirt on the down products causes a decrease in loft and reduces heat retention. If self-wash is difficult, dry cleaning with cleaner that offers wet-cleaning for down is recommended. Please check the care instruction label to see if the garment can be washed.
*Down products made of waterproof and breathable material such as GORE-TEX should also be cared for in the same manner as described below.

- All zippers, pockets, and flaps must be closed.
- A detergent specifically designed for down is recommended. Or use a mild liquid detergent compatible with feathers. Avoid other detergents as those remove the necessary oils from feathers and cause damage.
- Since many down garments have complex structures, hand washing is recommended as much as possible.
【Hand washing】
- Fold the product in a manner that dirty areas such as collars and cuffs come to the outside.
- Fill a bathtub or wash basin with water below 30°C and add detergent to make washing solution.
- Soak the folded garment in the washing solution and gently press-wash.
- Detergent tends to remain on feathers, so please rinse thoroughly with clean water.
- Spin with washing machine may not be applicable depending on the product. Check the care instruction label to see if applicable. If possible, lightly spin no more than 1 minute.
【Washing machine】
- Put the folded garment in a laundry net.
- Washing machine should be set to hand wash or dry mode.
- Rinse more than usual.
- Spin with washing machine may not be applicable depending on the product. Check the care instruction label to see if applicable. If possible, lightly spin no more than 1 minute.
How to dry
【Natural Drying】
- Avoid direct sunlight, put a towel in low humid place and lay the garment flat on top.
- The down is wet and clumpy, so please periodically unravel while drying.
- Natural drying of down may take several days to a week, depending on the amount of down and the environment. Please dry the down thoroughly, as storing it undried will damage the down.
【Dryer】
- Always use a low temperature setting, as high temperatures can damage the down.
- By adding 2~3 tennis balls together with the down to the dryer, the balls will hit the down and loosen it to expedite the drying process.
- Open the dryer every 10 minutes to loosen clumps of down by hand, and repeat until the down is thoroughly dry.
Storing instruction
- Storing down for long periods of time in small carrying stuff sacks can cause the down to lose loft, and humidity can damage it. Fold or hang on a hanger, not in a bag, and store at a well-ventilated place.
Synthetic insulation products
These garments have insulation made of polyester or other man-made fibers, which can be washed at home.
*Synthetic insulation products made of waterproof breathable material such as GORE-TEX should also be cared for in the same manner as described below.
Washing instructions
- Check and follow the care instruction label.
- All zippers, pockets, and flaps must be closed.
- Use a Ph neutral liquid detergent.
- Hand washing is recommended as the product is likely to float on water and may get washed unevenly. Can cause unevenness in the wash.
- Fold the product in a manner that dirty areas such as collars and cuffs come to the outside.
- Fill a bathtub or wash basin with water below 30°C and add detergent to make washing solution.
- Soak the folded garment in the washing solution and gently press-wash.
- Detergent tends to remain on the insulation, so please rinse thoroughly with clean water.
- Spin with washing machine may not be applicable depending on the product. Check the care instruction label to see if applicable. If possible, lightly spin no more than 1 minute. And please avoid squeezing hard by hand.
Drying instructions
- After fixing the shape of the garment, hang it on a hanger or lay it flat on a towel to dry in the shade.
- After it has dried to some extent, lightly tap it with both hands to fix its shape.
- Natural dry in the shade for 2 to 3 day until completely dried inside and out.
Storing instructions
- Storing for long periods of time in small carrying stuff sacks can cause the down to lose loft, and humidity can damage it. fold or hang on a hanger, not in a bag, and store in a well-ventilated place.
Knit products
Some knits and sweaters may shrink when washed, so be sure to check the care instruction label. When you take them to dry cleaners, please also follow the label.

- Check the care instruction label to see if the garment can be machine-washed or hand-washed and follow instructions.
- Even if the label indicates that the garment can be machine-washed, handwashing is recommended to retain product silhouette.
- Use Ph neutral liquid detergent.
- Apply detergent directly to areas with heavy dirt, then fold the garment and put it in a laundry net.
- Fill a bathtub or basin with water below 30°C and add detergent to make washing solution.
- Soak the folded garment in the washing solution and gently push-wash.
- Spin dry with the washing machine for 30 seconds to 1 minute.
- Rinse with clean water and spin dry again.
Drying instructions
- Dry flat in the shade, as the weight of the garment could deform its shape if the garment is hung on a hanger.
Storing instructions
- To preserve the shape, please fold and store. For animal fibers such as wool, it is recommended to also include an insect repellent to prevent insect infestation.
